Steps To Launder Your Clothes Properly

When was the last time you laundered your clothes properly? You may say, “But I do that everytime?” Ask yourself, are your clothes really as clean as they seem to be? Laundering may seem like an easy task, having witnessed our mothers do it for years. But simply mixing soap and detergent in water to wash the dirt off doesn't really clean them. If anything, they often cause the colour of the fabric to fade away and make it a lot crisper upon drying. It is understandable that many people find laundry chores to be frustrating, owing to the number of steps it has. This is precisely where laundry and dry cleaning services like Washho come into play! They are a one-stop destination to meet all your cleaning requirements.

But laundry is also a personal task, so if you choose to do it all by yourself, we are here to make sure things are easier for you. Read on to know the steps to laundering your clothes well.

Step 1: Sorting Out Clothes Based On Fabric:

Most of us tend to procrastinate on our laundry work. By the time we decide on laundering, there's already a massive pile of clothes waiting to be washed. Before you begin the actual process of washing, it is essential to sort your clothes based on color in lighter and darker shades. Soiled or dirty clothes go into a third pile.

You can also sort clothes based on their fabric as the water and temperature requirements of all fabric are not the same. For example, sheets and towels must be separated from apparels, while jeans must be separated from lighter garments like blouses and dresses. Furthemore, it is essential to read the care label on clothes where the manufacturing company has given cleaning instructions like 'machine wash', 'hand wash', or 'dry clean only.

Step 2: Choosing The Right Detergent:

Laundry detergents come in forms like powder, liquid, or as a single-dose. Liquid detergent is the most convenient one to use since it effectively removes greasy and oily stains. It's best to pre-treat the stains by either applying a stain remover or rubbing in a bit of the detergent. Once the clothes are separated well, add the detergent to the dispenser before loading it into the washing machine. This will prevent your clothes from having any kind of residue on them.

  • Set The Water Temperature And Cycle:

Unless your clothes are heavily caked with dirt, you can wash them all in cold water. The only exception to this being cotton clothes. Cotton clothes like undergarments and bed sheets, need to be rinsed in hot water to remove stains off them, if any. Depending on the fabric type and loading size, you can choose a particular water temperature and cycle present on the washing machine. The guide on clothes and linens labels will help you know the water temperature and cycles required by the fabric. For example, cold water and a delicate wash cycle are suitable for dark colors. In contrast, warm water and a permanent press cycle help wash synthetic clothes.

  • Load And Unload The Washer:

Once you have checked everything to prevent any last-minute mishaps, gently load the clothes one at a time. Do not cram the washer till the brim as clothes need space to move about in the machine. Once the clothes have been washed properly, promptly remove the wet laundry from the machine to prevent wrinkles or any kind of fungal growth.

  • Load The Dryer:

Separate your clothing articles depending upon their fabric type if you haven't already done them while washing. Once you've separated them into lightweight and heavyweight articles, choose the correct dryer temperature and label for each lot. Similar to the washer, you can follow the guidelines on the labels to know which fabric is to be exposed to what kind of atmosphere in the dryer. For example, undergarments, woven clothes, and those with embellishments are to be dried in the delicate cycle, while most clothing items are dried in a permanent press cycle and heavier items like jeans and towels in a regular cycle.

  • Hang Or Fold And Store:

After the clothes are all dried up, you quickly need to take care of them to prevent wrinkle formation. You can either hang the items or fold each piece as you take them out of the dryer. Iron each article to avoid creases and store them well in a closet or drawer for their longevity.

Conclusion:

Your laundry work is as much an important task in your day to day life as everything else. Thus, you want to make sure that your laundering is done efficiently, to breathe freshness into yourself and the environment you are in, every time you don an outfit. You can always call for laundry and dry cleaning services like Washho for help because a little help can go a long way.
