Everybody loves to keep a favorite pair of white sneakers spotless and clean, especially during the summer and spring seasons. Just one scuff on your favorite white sneakers is enough to ruin a great spring outfit, and we know that white sneakers (like the famous Converse) tend to get dirty easily. Fortunately, there are ways to protect them from getting stained.
There are many methods that can help you to protect your white shoes, regardless of the material they are made of, including leather, mesh, suede or canvas.
Method 1- Using Powder Cleaners
In this method, you can use an abrasive powder detergent along with some heated water in a bowl. When you mix the detergent with heated water it will form a paste-like consistency. Dip a toothbrush into this mixture and scrub the shoe, especially the rubber areas, in a circular motion. Forcefully rub the areas that are more stained, then use some warm water to rinse the shoes. Wipe the sneakers with a clean towel or cloth and check whether it still has stains that require the whole process to be repeated again. If yes, then just repeat the process, and if not, then let your shoes dry. You can also use baking soda instead of an abrasive powder if you prefer.
Method 2- Using Toothpaste
It’s a fact that toothpaste actually works very well for brightening white shoes. Use a non-gel white toothpaste to stain your shoes instead of cleaning them. Apply the white toothpaste to an old toothbrush and start applying it to the shoe’s surface areas where the stains are. When you are finished applying the toothpaste, leave it on the shoes for 10 minutes. After that, you’ll need to wipe the toothpaste off the shoes with the help of a damp cloth or towel. You can repeat the process to get the desired results.
Method 3- Using Vinegar and Baking Soda
Form a paste-like mixture by adding one tablespoon each of white vinegar, hot water, and baking soda. Apply this mixture with the help of an old toothbrush to the rubber sole and canvas portions of the shoes. You can use more of the mixture if required to clean tough stains. After this, rinse the shoes with lukewarm water to remove all the baking soda and vinegar. Keep the shoes in a warm sunny location to dry them completely.
Method 4– Using a Washing Machine
For this method, you will need a bucket half filled with lukewarm water. Add 2/3 cup of baking soda and a small amount of dishwashing detergent to the lukewarm water, then stir the mixture for some time. Put your sneakers in the bucket and vigorously brush the front area, toe patch, tongue, and eyelets. Remove the dirt as much as possible, then take the shoes out. Next, start your washing machine on a low cycle. Add 1/2 cup laundry detergent and put the sneakers in the machine. Make sure there is no other garment in the washing machine. Don’t use bleach, otherwise any patterns on your sneakers can deteriorate. A cold rinse is recommended for this technique.
These methods can help you keep your white Converse sneakers in good condition and will help them last longer. Make sure you follow these instructions carefully and do not modify the quantities.
